Over failure of democracy under YSRCP govt Says TDP and submits complaint to President Kovind

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs on Thursday met President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rastrapati Bhawan and submitted a representation over "systematic destruction of democratic and constitutional institutions in the state by the YSR Congress Party".

The opposition party alleged "infringement of the fundamental rights of the citizens" by the ruling part in its 14 months of tenure.

"From demolishing the Praja Vedika (People's Forum) in June 2019, to injecting a sense of fear in government officials, to forcing vice-chancellors of state universities to resign, to unleashing terror and filing concocted cases against the Dalit community in Guntur district, thus making them refugees in their own state, to killing supporters of Opposition," alleged the party in its complaint to the President.

"...To slapping cases against the farmers who are peacefully protesting in Amaravati, to threatening their own party members, to issuing unofficial orders to ban news channels, to illegally mining and transporting sand, to housing site, 108 ambulance and other scams. The YSRCP government is ruining everything," the complaint further said.

The TDP sought an urgent intervention to uphold the democratic values and rule of law in the state and and thanked the President for sparing his time.

The party said President Kovind gave his assurance that he will examine the representation and take appropriate action.
