Celebrated IPS Officer K Annamalai who had quit the civil service last year, today (25 August) joined the BJP in the presence of Tamil Nadu BJP chief L Murugan and other senior party leaders.

After joining the BJP Annamalai said that he will now work towards strengthening the party in Tamil Nadu as well as to bring a nationalistic spirit in the state.

"I will strengthen the party in Tamil Nadu and bring a nationalistic spirit to our state. I will try my best as a loyal soldier of the party", Annamalai has been quoted as saying.

Annamalai also said that he has joined the party as a loyal foot soldier without attaching any conditions.

Annamalai a native of Tamil Nadu had served in the Karnataka cadre for 10 years before quitting the service in 2019. It was heavily speculated that he would start a political career after his resignation and may join the BJP.

Annamalai, fondly known as the Singham of Karnataka, had held the post Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bengaluru South) prior to his resignation. Annamalai claimed that his decision to resign was inspired by his trip to Kailash Manasarovar which was an eye-opener for him.
